Know us for when you need us
Sarah Hannon, Aged Residential Care Nurse
What is your role at Nelson Tasman Hospice?
My role at Nelson Tasman Hospice is that of a specialist palliative care RN – I go around the Aged Care Facilities in Nelson and Motueka and give recommendations and advice to those who have been referred to the service. I will also be orientating to the Hospital In Reach team (which goes into Nelson Hospital).
You are new to the team, tell us about why you wanted to work at Nelson Tasman Hospice?
Even when I was studying, I always wanted to work in Palliative Care (PC). I’ve got my post grad cert in PC and will be finishing my diploma next year. Something about this work just calls to me, and I am very passionate about it. That being said, I also love a good wound!
What does a working day look like for you?
A working day for me (at the moment!) is trying to get up to speed with the routine of the service as I am only in my third week! I look at the list of people who are already with the service and organise to see them when I can. I also collaborate with my colleagues to make sure we don’t go to the same places etc.
If you were a colour, what colour would you be and why?
If I were a colour I think I would be lime green – anyone that knows me well knows this is my favourite colour. One Christmas, my Dad even gave me a box full of bright green kitchen utensils!
