Nelson Tasman Hospice is excited to announce the relocation of its Bridge Street Op Shop…
A Heartfelt Thank You: The Community Behind Nelson Tasman Hospice Trust’s latest charity shop – Op Shop on Vanguard
This past weekend, the ribbon was officially cut at Op Shop on Vanguard by Nelson Mayor Nick Smith, alongside Nelson Tasman Hospice Trust Trustee, Sharon McGuire, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Nelson Tasman Hospice.
From the moment the doors opened, the shop was buzzing. Shoppers poured in to hunt for bargains, drop off donations, and be part of the celebrations. “It was just incredible to see so many people here on day one,” said Dianne Timbs, Op Shop on Vanguard Manager. “The shop was full of energy – people were finding treasures, catching up with friends, and supporting Hospice all at the same time.”
Local Businesses That Helped Bring the Vision to Life
We’re deeply grateful to the following businesses whose contributions made a tangible difference:
- Nelmac – for lending a hand in moving our larger items, making the setup smoother and safer.
- McKenzies Painting Contractors – for starting off the big painting job at the Bridge Street location for us.
- The Flooring Room Nelson – for donating carpet off-cuts that now form part of our dedicated donation processing area.
- Sportswise Signs & Graphics – for expertly removing old signage and installing the stunning new look.
- WSP New Zealand – for enabling one of their local team to help out for a community volunteer day.
- Hills Cleaning – for popping by without us even asking and cleaning our windows ready for the big day.
- Rapid Relief Team (RRT) – for hosting the BBQ fundraiser on opening day, raising both funds and community spirit.
- And our new neighbours on Vanguard Street at The Cutting Bar, Hunter Home, Guthrie Bowron, and Hato Hone St John – thank you for generously donating spot prizes and treats for our shoppers.
“Every single business and individual who contributed played a part in making this happen,” said Donna Ching-Tregidga, Head of Supporter Engagement & Income Development. “From painting and flooring to signage and giveaways, the support has been phenomenal – and it all goes toward helping us continue to provide free care to local families.”
Volunteers & Colleagues: The Heart of the Shop
A special shout-out to our amazing volunteers and Hospice colleagues—without your time, energy, and enthusiasm, the opening simply wouldn’t have been possible. From early setup shifts to welcoming our first customers, your dedication was the heartbeat of the operation.
“We had people painting, moving, sorting donations, pricing, cleaning, stocking shelves, and making sure the shop looked perfect,” said Dianne. “I’m so proud of how our team pulled together – it really showed what our Hospice team is made of.”
A Community Powered by Compassion
The new Op Shop on Vanguard is more than a place to shop or donate—it’s a community hub, a space for connection, and a source of hope. Every item sold or donated, and every volunteer shift, helps fund free specialist palliative care for more than 210 patients and their whānau across the region every month, through illness, death, and bereavement.
To everyone who helped, supported, and believed in us – thank you. This shop reflects your generosity and spirit.
