Local Brewery Sprig + Fern Champions Local Hospice Care Through Hops for Hospice
Nelson Tasman Hospice is raising a glass to community, collaboration, and compassion with the launch of Hops for Hospice – a special edition brew created by Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. for the 2026 Yondi Foundation Hands Up for Hospice campaign.
Available from the 22nd April and continuing for the month of May, Hops for Hospice is a vibrant fresh hop hazy pale ale brewed using freshly harvested Nelson Sauvin and Nectaron hops, showcasing the very best of the Tasman region’s hop harvest. Bursting with bright tropical fruit, passionfruit, citrus notes, and balanced by subtle hints of white wine and gooseberry, the beer delivers a soft, juicy body and smooth finish – an easy-drinking seasonal release with a powerful purpose.
“Everyone has a connection to hospice care in some way, whether it’s family, friends, or the wider community. It’s something that touches all of us. Every beer we produce is crafted with care and attention to quality, and this one carries a particularly special feeling as it helps raise funds for such a meaningful cause. We’re proud to support our local community and brewing this beer is our way of giving back to a service that supports so many local families.” says Tracy Banner, Owner and Master Brewer of Sprig + Fern Brewing Co.
This is so much more than just a beer.
Hops for Hospice is the result of a generous collaboration between Sprig + Fern Brewing Co, Sprig + Fern Taverns, Little Sprigs, Gladfield Malt, NZ Hops, Label & Litho and VISY-all coming together with a shared goal: supporting the vital work of hospice care in our community.
To help fundraise, $1 from every pint sold in Sprig + Fern Taverns and Little Sprig Wakefield in the Nelson/Tasman region will go to Nelson Tasman Hospice. In addition, $1 from every 888ml bottle and $1 from every 440ml can sold will also be donated, along with a portion of every keg sold.
In Wellington, $1 from every pint sold in Sprig + Fern Taverns and Little Sprig Seatoun will be donated to Te Omanga Hospice and Mary Potter Hospice.
Across the month, Sprig + Fern Taverns and Little Sprigs will also be supporting their local hospice fundraising efforts through events such as quiz and bingo nights, bringing people together in support of a shared cause.
Nelson Tasman Hospice provides compassionate, specialist palliative care and support to around 210 patients and their families across the region every month. The service remains free of charge, but this care comes at a significant and growing cost – more than $12,300 must be raised from the community to keep services running every day.
“This partnership with Sprig + Fern shows the strength and positive influence of local businesses and communities coming together to care for one another.” says Tony Gray, Chief Executive of Nelson Tasman Hospice, “Sharing a drink is a familiar and comforting way for people to gather and remember loved ones. This collaboration is about leadership, connection and responding to a critical funding need. We are incredibly grateful to the Sprig + Fern Brewery team, their suppliers, and all their taverns for uniting to support their community through Hands Up for Hospice.”
At 5.2% ABV, Hops for Hospice is a celebration of flavour, generosity, and community spirit – where every sip helps ensure hospice care remains available to all who need it.
Enjoy every sip knowing you are supporting a great cause.
