A note from Jenny Black – New Chair of the Nelson Tasman Hospice Operational Trust Board

Tena koutou katoa,

I’m delighted to pen a few words to introduce myself to the Hospice whānau and pay tribute to John Peters for his many years of service. John has lead the Hospice Trust Board for the last 12 years – a time of tremendous growth and development. From Manuka St to Suffolk Rd and an increase in staff and services. With that type of expansion there are many things to consider, and we were lucky to have John leading the organisation with his eye for detail and ability to corral the right people to get things done. John, thank you from all the people you have worked with and the greater community of Nelson Tasman.

I have stepped into the role vacated by John and do so with awareness of the special place that Nelson Tasman Hospice (NTH) holds within the heart of our community. The valued support of the community, the volunteer network of thousands of hours per week, the skilled staff that deliver the expert care and the dedicated administrative team that keeps the system oiled and working, ensures NTH will continue to hold that place.

I have worked in health, in this region for 40+ years. Firstly, as a Dietitian and more recently 12 years as chairman of the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (DHB). For me, my work has always been about the power of a team – no one person can have all the skills required to do a task. Building a team of people each with their own knowledge and personality gives us a greater chance of success. It is this team work that has given me the greatest satisfaction. I know that Hospice is that team. A great mix of smart people, doing the right thing for the right reason.

I am delighted to chair the trust board and support the team at Nelson Tasman Hospice.
I look forward to working with you and our community to continue the great work of those who have gone before us and ensure that it is here for years to come.

Ngā mihi nui,
Jenny Black

Chair, Operational Trust
