Nelson Tasman Hospice Celebrates Hands Up for Hospice Campaign
Nelson Tasman Hospice is incredibly proud to have been a finalist in the Nelson Pine Industries Chamber of Commerce NBS Community Impact Award for our Hands Up for Hospice campaign. While we did not take home the top prize, the recognition of our campaign’s impact is a testament to the extraordinary support from our community, partners, and volunteers.
The Hands Up for Hospice campaign, launched in May 2024 and proudly championed by NBS, was designed to not only raise vital funds but also to foster open conversations about living well with a life limiting illness, dying, and the role of Hospice in our community. With an ambitious goal to raise $100,000, the campaign surpassed expectations, raising $126,091 to support free specialist palliative care services in the Nelson Tasman region.
Throughout the campaign, businesses, schools, aged care facilities, and individuals came together in an extraordinary show of support. From Heave for Hospice, a spirited tug-of-war competition, to high teas, fundraising sales, and unique community-led events, Hands Up for Hospice brought thousands of people together for a shared cause.
“The success of Hands Up for Hospice is a reflection of the power of community,” said Tony Gray, Te Tumu Whakarae – Chief Executive, of Nelson Tasman Hospice “While we may not have won the award, we have won something even greater – deeper connections, awareness, and vital support that allows us to continue our work.”
As a not-for-profit organisation, Nelson Tasman Hospice must raise approximately $4 million annually to continue providing much needed free specialist palliative care services. The impact of this campaign extends beyond fundraising—it has helped break down barriers so that hopefully when people need us, they know we are here to support them.
With Hands Up for Hospice now set as a biennial event, we look forward to continuing this legacy, strengthening our community’s ability to engage with hospice care, and ensuring that everyone in the Nelson Tasman region can live well until they die.
