Dayman’s Family Values Leads To Community Support
Dayman’s, home to MG, Suzuki, Subaru and Nissan, has been part of the Nelson automotive scene for more than 55 years. Started by General Manager Garry Dayman’s parents in 1965, Dayman’s has had various brand relationships throughout the ensuing years. Known as the Nelson Bays Motor Group since 2007, the company has recently returned to its original name – Dayman’s, paying tribute to the hard work the family has dedicated to the Nelson community.
The Dayman’s business has always been about strong family support and values. Scott Dayman, Sales Manager, has fond memories of watching his pop in the service department while he cleaned cars in the school holidays to earn some pocket money.
Garry says it is this sense of family and wanting to give back to a community which has supported them for so long that is behind the generous sponsorship deal with Nelson Tasman Hospice
“Some time ago Hospice came to us to get a car to transport some goods. Then a second approach was made to buy a vehicle. I thought we could do better than that and Dayman’s came up with a deal which provides a 2023 Suzuki S-Cross JLX2, 2023 Suzuki Swift RS, 2023 Suzuki Swift GLX for use by the hospice community team to deliver care in family homes and out in the community.”
Nelson Tasman Hospice deliver specialist palliative care wherever a patient calls home, providing clinical expertise that focuses on physical symptom management as well as specialist support to provide patients and their families with the necessary tools to assist with the social, emotional, and spiritual impact of the illness. The aim is to support patients to improve their lives and empower them to live well until they die.
Accounting for around 80% of the care Nelson Tasman Hospice provide, the community team deliver care for people in their own space, meaning they can be around their home comforts, as well as their loved ones, families and whānau. Support is given to the whole family, with recognition that every family is different and tailoring the care to the needs of the patient.
These vehicles are well kept by our equipment volunteer team, including Dave who regularly cleans them ensuring they are road ready.
By supplying the use of these vehicles, Dayman’s are giving a vital gift to patients and their families in the Nelson Tasman region. Without their generous support, hospice services would not be accessible to the 210 patients who are cared for each month.
