A big thank you to the New Zealand Community Trust who have recently supported the…
Kauri Supporters
Our Kauri supporters provide grants, at times for specific activities of our work, and to show our appreciation for their ongoing contribution, we want to highlight the massive impact of the recent funds received from these dedicated supporters.
The incredible Pub Charity Limited has given a gift of $100,000 towards our Education Programme. As the specialists in palliative care in the region, Nelson Tasman Hospice works alongside other Nelson Tasman health care providers in consultation and with training. We held 81 workshops last year with around 950 attendees including District Nurses, students across Social Work, Counselling and Nursing, Aged Residential Care workers and family and whānau carers.
Last year, Mainland Foundation generously provided essential funding of $76,000 for the ongoing costs of our medical services. At Nelson Tasman Hospice we have a team of three doctors who work as part of an
interdisciplinary team with other clinical colleagues, as well as in consultation with healthcare professionals across the region.
New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT)’s recent gift of $50,000 contributed to the costs of our Community Clinical Nurse Lead, Emily who supports the day to day coordination of the activities of the large and varied team. The community team includes nurses who visit patient at home, aged residential care facilities and the Nelson Hospital as well as social workers, counsellors, clinical psychologists and physiotherapist that all work together to look after a patient and their whānau/family holistically.
The Lion Foundation have recently once again, very generously, given $90,000 towards two specialist palliative care nurses – one in the community and one in our Specialist Palliative Care Unit (SPCU). Nelson Tasman Hospice Nurses provide families with comfort, reassurance, information and help them navigate their way through their lives after a palliative diagnosis. Whether a patient is at home in the community or staying in the SPCU, our nurses are an integral part of the care and support they are surrounded by.
The Lottery West Coast / Nelson / Marlborough Community Committee for granting Nelson Tasman Hospice $28,750 towards supporting the operational cost of hospice services, acknowledging the importance of this work to support our patients and the whānau/family from a holisitc perspective.
Rātā Foundation generous grants, equivalent to $40,000 in 2024, are supporting a Martin Jenkins report which has been co-commissioned alongside four other Hospices in New Zealand with the aim of strengthening across sector knowledge. Working collaboratively with five hospices means there is a much wider lens on working towards sustainability, increasing equity and strengthening our work in the community. The aim is to collectively develop knowledge and grow capacity and capability. In addition, these funds will support our operating costs, enabling us to take care of patients and their families on our services supporting them with specialist care.
Our compassionate community helps us be there for patients and their families when they need us the most. We appreciate every individual, business and grant funder who works with us towards a sustainable and equitable future for specialist palliative care. Thank you.
