Maisie visits our patients
Maisie the dog has started visiting in our inpatient unit.
Judy Petrie, from Canine Friends Pet Therapy, has been bringing her along on a Tuesday to be seen by any patients who are interested.
According to the Canine Friends (caninefriends.org.nz) website, health research shows that many people experience “great improvement in their health and attitude through interaction with visiting animals”.
“Many people benefit greatly from the natural affection that most dogs have for humans, especially the elderly and unwell.
Canine Friends’ experience, and anecdotal evidence, shows that people are energised, comforted and entertained by visiting dogs.”
Maisie certainly is a delight to pat.
