There are many ways to support Nelson Tasman Hospice

Nelson Tasman Hospice currently receives just over half of the operational costs from government funding. As a result, a funding shortfall of $3.5M needs to be fundraised for each year. This comes from the generous support from the community, Nelson Tasman Hospice Shops‘ and fundraising initiatives.

Your donation is a powerful gift that will support the sustainability of hospice services in our region.

We would love to hear from you. If you have any general queries about how you can help, please contact Donna Ching-Tregidga the Head of Supporter Engagement & Income Development.

Days of Care

Support Hospice by gifting a Day of Care

Honour the memory of a loved one or mark an important date for you or your business. Your gift towards a ‘Day of Care’ supports a person who needs specialist palliative care for a day either in our Specialist Palliative Care Unit or within the community.

How much does it cost to donate?

  • Ensure patients can be cared for at home or in our Specialist Palliative Care Unit, with the specialist support of hospice care $1200 (incl. GST)
  • Ensure patients and their family/whānau can be cared for at home or in our Specialist Care Unit, with the specialist support of hospice care including counselling, spiritual and pastoral care, and bereavement services $1,700 (incl. GST)

Gifting a Day or Days of Care means you will be part of the team at Hospice, bringing the best possible care and support to people in our community when they need it most.

NB: Some of our donors sponsor more than a day of care – please contact us if you would like to donate towards more than a day of care as we can look at different options for you.

When you support a Day of Care, the team will create and display a poster acknowledging your chosen day. We also love to share your support on our social media pages (Facebook and Instagram)

You will be asked for your consent, and an appropriate picture before public acknowledgement is made.

Leaving a Legacy

Nelson Tasman Hospice is a charitable trust and relies on the generous support of the community through donations and gifts in wills.

The work of Nelson Tasman Hospice touches many individuals and whānau throughout the Nelson Tasman region.

Choosing to remember Nelson Tasman Hospice with a gift in your will is the perfect way to help the region in the future. Truly, you will be leaving a lasting legacy.

We are sincerely grateful to those caring people who have made, or are considering making, a gift to hospice services in their will.

A gift from your estate can be for a specified gift of property or savings or a percentage of your entire estate.  More information is included in the links below.

Please get in touch should you like to discuss leaving a legacy with the Nelson Tasman Hospice Trust.

Since a will is a legal document, it’s important to seek the right advice and wording. A solicitor, or another entity that specialises in wills, can help you prepare your will. If you have not yet made a will, this is usually a simple, inexpensive process and the benefits are enormous – both for the recipient charity and for your peace of mind knowing that your wishes have been made clear.

There are several types of bequests you can choose from:

  • Residuary – a gift of the remainder of your estate after provisions for family and other beneficiaries have been settled
  • Percentage – a percentage of the value of your estate
  • Pecuniary – a specific sum of money
  • Specified Bequest – a particular item such as a vehicle or a house

Nelson Tasman Region Hospice Trust Group (trading name: Nelson Tasman Hospice) is a registered charitable trust: Charity # CC58048

Nelson Tasman Hospice’s Companies # 453033

If asked for wording regarding leaving a gift in will, this would be the general wording that we would suggest:
I give to The Nelson Tasman Region Hospice Trust, registered charity CC 24279 (a percentage of my estate, or the residue of my estate, or specific sum of money or write a description of property or assets) for general purposes, for which the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper office shall be full and sufficient discharge to my trustees.

Share your Story

If you feel comfortable sharing your story, we would love to hear it.

Whether you are currently on our service, have lost a loved one on our service in the past, are a volunteer or a supporter – sharing your story is powerful and helps Hospice in a variety of ways.

Stories help:

– raise awareness in the community of our services and show our supporters, volunteers and colleagues the positive impact they have throughout the Nelson Tasman region every day

– give patients and their whānau/families an idea of what may lay ahead, helping to alleviate some of the fear around what it means to have a life-limiting illness and be on hospice services

If you would be interested in knowing more or would like to share your story, we would love to hear from you.
