Lottery Grants Board Supports Allied Health
Thank you to Lottery Nelson Community Committee for granting Nelson Tasman Hospice $23,000 towards supporting the operational costs of our Allied Health team, acknowledging the importance of this work to provide evidenced based treatment to our patients and the whānau/family. The Te Puna Tahua Lottery Grants Board aims to maximise the community benefits of lottery funds and does great work throughout New Zealand.
Nelson Tasman Hospice Allied Health colleagues are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team caring for around 210 palliative patients each month across Nelson Tasman. Within this team we have Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Counselling intern, Occupational Therapist and a Physiotherapist.
Allied health practitioners are highly qualified professionals who are trained to treat a number of conditions that can negatively impact the patient/whānau journey. For example, our clinicians can treat depression, PTSD, and anxiety meaning that patients/whānau are able to embrace the meaning and purpose of their lives during their patient journey. Our Allied Health clinicians also work to ensure whānau/families are able to use their natural resources effectively to manage what is an intensely demanding journey from admission to service to specialist bereavement support.
These wrap around services help patients with their wellbeing, mental health, spirituality, practical planning, difficult discussions and decisions as well as family dynamics. This type of support, alongside our medical care, is an integral part of enabling patients to achieve their goals and live well in a way that matters most to them, until they die.
A big thank you to the Lottery West Coast/Nelson/Marlborough Community Committee for your ongoing support.
Community grants are integral to the sustainability of our Hospice; if you know of any Trusts or Foundations that may consider supporting our essential service work please let us know.
