New Zealand Community Trust Supporting Specialist Palliative Care

A huge thank you to New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) for the contribution they make to local communities, and especially the contribution they have made to the community that we care for.
New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) were established in 1998 and have proudly been supporting local communities since. A recent grant of $50,000 contributed to the costs of our Clinical Nurse Lead in the Specialist Palliative Care Unit (SPCU), Helen. Helen is a registered nurse with 28 years of experience working for Te Whatu Ora. Passionate about working with all members of the interdisciplinary team, she supports the provision of holistic, quality care for patients and their family/whānau as they navigate their palliative care journey.
Each morning Helen heads to the 9am meeting to discuss discharge planning, potential admissions to the unit and these patient’s needs, and staffing needs. The rest of day can be varied with a combination of project group meetings, quality improvement initiatives, meeting with patients and family/whānau, supporting the team, and liaising with community services. This varied and busy workload enables patients to receive the best possible seamless care when they need hospice the most.
“It certainly is a privilege to work at Nelson Tasman Hospice and be part of such a great team who do amazing work supporting the Nelson Tasman community. Thanks to NZCT for their generosity.” – Helen
We acknowledge that it takes a community to make a Hospice happen. Thank you, New Zealand Community Trust, for enabling us to continue providing free specialist palliative care in the region and being such an important part of our compassionate community.
And a massive thank you to the publicans who help make these gifts possible – Hotel Motueka and Ocean Lodge.
Community grants are integral to the sustainability of our Hospice; if you know of any Trusts or Foundations that may consider supporting our essential service work please let us know.
