A “tree”-pronged approach to fundraising over Christmas
The festive season is approaching quickly, and Trees of Remembrance will be popping up across the region raising much needed funds for Nelson Tasman Hospice. These trees symbolise more than just festive decorations; they offer an opportunity to support locals and remember those who can’t be with us during Christmas.
There are three activations happening under the Trees of Remembrance banner with the first one kicking off at Farmers stores in Nelson and Richmond on the 14th of November. You can donate in store or purchase a hand-painted bauble for $15.99, knowing that, despite being part of a nationwide hospice fundraising campaign run by Farmers, all the funds raised in the region will directly benefit the local community.
The 29th of November marks the beginning of the Nelson Airport Trees of Remembrance activation with a display of trees at the airport sponsored and decorated by local businesses who have actively chosen to support Nelson Tasman Hospice this Christmas. The trees will be on display until the 10th of January and all visitors to the airport can vote for their favourite tree.
Community trees are also available for three days this year. From the 5th – 7th of December in Richmond Mall and outside New World Nelson and in Stoke outside Hurst and Taylor on the 5th and New World Stoke on the 6th-7th.
Dedicated volunteers, including individuals and service organisations like the Freemasons, Whakatu Womens Welfare League and Richmond Lions make these community events possible.
Nelson Tasman Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for people of all ages with life-limiting illnesses, supporting more than 210 patients and their families a month through illness, death, and bereavement. A funding shortfall of $3.5M needs to be fundraised for each year and is primarily raised by the community.
Keep a look out for the Trees of Remembrance as Christmas approaches this year and take a moment to remember your loved ones.
