Nelson Pine Industries Limited continues to support Nelson Tasman Hospice
Nelson Pine Industries Limited continues to demonstrate their commitment to our community by supporting specialist palliative care in the region.
Since the early 2000’s, the entire staff at Nelson Pine Industries Limited (NPIL) have forgone a Christmas ham in order to make a donation to Nelson Tasman Hospice. Murray Sturgeon, Chairman of NPIL, has presented the hospice with a significant pre-Christmas donation every year since.
NPIL also supported Nelson Tasman Hospice by making a significant product donation supplying NelsonPine LVL (laminated veneer lumber), a high-performance engineered wood product, for use in the hospice’s building, completed in 2019, in Suffolk Rd, Stoke.
This year, the relationship between Nelson Tasman Hospice and NPIL has been formalised and strengthened by the signing of a 5-year major sponsorship agreement.
Murray says the management of the company, which is a world-renowned manufacturer of sustainably sourced, technology-advanced wood products, “took an executive decision” in the 2000s to donate the value of a staff gift to Hospice instead, as they considered it a worthy cause. “In the early days, we had two employees who went through the hospice service and that’s what prompted us to consider it. The staff and volunteers there do a fantastic job,” Murray says.
He says Nelson Pine staff had always been supportive of the decision. About 270 people work in the Lower Queen St, Richmond, business – across manufacturing, marketing and administration.
Recently Kai Kruse (Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director), Glenn Ching (Sales & Marketing Manager) and George McMahon (Chief Operating Officer) of NPIL visited Suffolk Road to meet with Tony Gray (Chief Executive), Donna Ching-Tregidga (Head of Supporter Engagement & Income Development) and Rachel Lake (Supporter Engagement Lead) of Nelson Tasman Hospice to have a tour of the facility and learn more about the provision of specialist palliative care to approximately 240 patients and their whānau in the Nelson Tasman region every month.
NPIL has for many decades been a strong corporate citizen providing sponsorships to community organisations throughout the region. Nelson Tasman Hospice is thankful for the ongoing support and proud to be associated with this world-leading company.
