Volunteers at Nelson Tasman Hospice fulfil more than 35 different roles. Many of these roles have come about as a result of someone offering us their specific and sometimes unique skills – both patient and non-patient based. Current Vacancies

Coordinator of Our Raffle Services in Nelson

This volunteer position is involved in coordinating and helping to organise the regular monthly raffles plus occasional raffle stands at some fundraising events if required. The time commitment is 4 -8 hours per month and can be based from volunteers home or the office. The ability to work with a variety of people is essential and some computer skills would be an advantage.

Casual Raffle Volunteers (Nelson, Stoke, Richmond)

This team plays an important part of our fundraising by holding monthly raffles over the region. To support the regular team we require volunteers who maybe able to sit in a 2 hour shift if the usual volunteer is unavailable. These positions could be area specific or float across the 3 areas.

Massage Volunteer

This role offers relaxation massage to patients in the inpatient unit or community patients, and occasionally their caregivers. The volunteer must have a formal qualification and experience in massage along with a good understanding of the limitations of their specific scope of practice.

Inpatient Unit Volunteers

Volunteers provide support services for patients/visitors to the inpatient unit. This supplements, not takes over, the work of paid staff. It includes assisting with non-essential but useful “housekeeping” or food related jobs as well as sitting with or supporting patients/family as directed by staff.

Flower Arranger (Stoke area)

Flower arrangers make up flower posies to deliver to patients on their birthdays or occasionally on other days that are special to the patient. Time commitment can be anything from 0-4 hours per month and if unable to deliver this can be negotiated with another volunteer.

Wednesday Morning Administration Support

This position requires a volunteer with computer and general administration skills. It supports the volunteer manager with updating the inpatient unit roster and other tasks such as filling envelopes, filing, creating volunteer information packets, etc. Time commitment is generally 2-3hrs per fortnight on a Wednesday.

Patient Driver

Volunteer drivers provide transport to and from patients’ homes to the inpatient unit in Nelson and occasionally to other appointments. We are looking for welcoming, friendly and reliable drivers with a current NZ drivers’ licence and a clear driving record. This is an on-call role, dependent on patient requests. Requests are usually between 9am and 4pm.

Shop Pick up/Delivery Service

We are looking for welcoming, friendly and reliable volunteers who are physically fit as some heavy lifting. Currently require volunteers on Monday/Tuesday in Richmond and Wednesday/Thursday In Nelson.

The aim of the dedicated pick-up and delivery service ensures that good quality donations are received and despatched in a timely manner as well as making sure our shops are well stocked.
